About Montgomery County

Named for an American revolutionary war general, Richard Montgomery, Montgomery County has a rich agricultural history. Just a short drive west of St. Louis, Montgomery County can trace its history back thousands of years.

Early in the 19th century Montgomery County has settled by European immigrants looking for land that favored their home countries. In the southern portion of the County along the Missouri river the land was is suitable for farming that wine production rivals the wines of the world in quality.

The Katy Trail State Park and Graham Cave State Park are two of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources parks in Montgomery County. Along with five wildlife areas maintained by the Missouri Department of Conservation, these parks provide ample opportunity to partake in the beauty of the area's nature. Hiking, biking, bird watching, nature viewing, camping, fishing, canoeing, shooting and hunting are all available for those wanting to enjoy the outdoors.
